Dariya Kinara Samvad Yatra (Seaside Village Tour)

Between January 31st and February 6th, 2006, Shaishav worked with the Janpath network to organize and participate in a yatra through seaside villages along Gujarat’s coastline. We traveled through Amreli, Bhavnagar district, and part of Ahmedabad. The purpose was to understand the problems and issues those communities face and to learn about their way of life. Shaishav’s portion was 250 km long and went from Rajula, Babarkot to Dholera. We worked with local leaders and NGOs to encourage people’s participation. Our team conducted surveys, meetings, trainings, and both gathered and disseminated information to the communities. We held Bal Melas in villages and conducted Play for Peace games. We collected data on the community’s problems, particularly with respect to education. We also made linkages with many new NGO workers, grassroots movements, and community leaders in order to strengthen our efforts.
